B.Sc. (Computer Science)

Computing with a mathematics spine — for students who want the theory, not just the tools.

The difference between this programme and BCA is emphasis. BCA is application-focused and produces developers quickly. B.Sc. Computer Science keeps Mathematics and Physics alongside computing, which makes the first two years harder and the postgraduate options wider — particularly M.Sc. Computer Science, MCA and data-science programmes that test mathematical aptitude at entry.

Students take the same laboratory infrastructure as BCA — two computer centres, 110 systems on a 200 Mbps leased line — but their coursework leans towards algorithms, discrete structures and operating systems rather than framework-driven project work.

Who Can Apply

Pass in 10+2 with Mathematics, minimum 50% aggregate (45% for reserved categories).

Admission is granted strictly on the merit of the qualifying examination, following the reservation policy of the Government of Haryana. There is no capitation or donation charge of any kind.

Programme Highlights

What Makes This Course Different

Algorithms and Theory

Data structures, discrete mathematics and automata taught properly, not skipped in favour of tooling.

Mathematics Retained

Calculus, linear algebra and statistics continue through the degree — the entry requirement for most M.Sc. and data programmes.

Shared Lab Infrastructure

Two computer centres, 110 systems, licensed software and open practice hours outside timetabled classes.

Coding Club Access

Weekend problem-solving sessions and the annual 24-hour CodeAgrasen hackathon.

Syllabus

Year-by-Year Curriculum

The structure below follows the Kurukshetra University syllabus under the NEP 2020 framework. Papers are revised by the university periodically — the department publishes the current detailed syllabus at the start of each session.

Under the four-year framework you may exit with a certificate after year one, a diploma after year two, or a degree after year three.

  • Programming Fundamentals in C
  • Computer System Architecture
  • Calculus and Matrices
  • Mechanics or Chemistry (allied science)
  • Programming laboratory

  • Data Structures
  • Object-Oriented Programming in Java
  • Discrete Mathematics
  • Database Management Systems
  • Skill Enhancement: Python Programming

  • Operating Systems
  • Design and Analysis of Algorithms

Career Paths & Higher Study

Where our graduates from this programme actually go — based on alumni records, not projections.

Postgraduate study

M.Sc. Computer Science, MCA or a data-science masters — the strongest reason to choose this over BCA.

Software development

Entry developer roles, particularly where a strong fundamentals interview is involved.

Data analysis

Mathematics plus Python makes the analyst track genuinely accessible.

Government technical posts

NIELIT, banking IT officer and state e-governance recruitment.

Teaching

M.Sc. plus NET for college lectureship in computer science.

Testing and quality assurance

A common and stable entry point for graduates who prefer structured work.

Questions

Frequently Asked About This Course

Choose B.Sc. Computer Science if you intend to do M.Sc. or MCA, or if you enjoy mathematics. Choose BCA if your goal is to be employable as a developer as quickly as possible. BCA has more project work; B.Sc. has more theory and keeps mathematics alive.

No. The first semester assumes no prior programming knowledge and starts from C fundamentals. Students who have coded before tend to be bored for six weeks and then find the pace correct.

Yes, it is a hard eligibility requirement for this programme because calculus and linear algebra begin in the first semester. Students without Mathematics should look at BCA, which accepts any stream.

Nothing. All required software is licensed and installed in the computer centres, which have open practice hours. A personal laptop is convenient but not necessary.
